A new documentary is making a splash in Australia as it claims to tell the “most personal and compelling” story of a modern-day electrical mechanic.
“I was always an electricians apprentice.
I never did anything else,” says Peter C. Johnson, who went on to become a specialist electrician.
“When I left the profession, I never had any real experience in the electrical industry.
It’s kind of hard to explain what that experience is like, but it was all a lot of work and a lot to handle, and I never enjoyed it.”
Mr Johnson’s life took a turn for the better when he joined a family business, which had been providing equipment to local electricians for more than 30 years.
Mr Johnson, now 57, was one of the first apprentices to take up the job, and was awarded his first contract in 1993.
He has been working in the field of electrical maintenance since that time, earning $150 to $200 an hour and earning his first promotion when he became a specialist in electrical repair in 2007.
“A lot of people think, ‘Oh, he’s just a handyman, he doesn’t know what he’s doing’.
That’s just not true,” Mr Johnson says.
“You never know what you’re going to get out of a job, you know? “
“When you’ve been there a few years and you’ve had the opportunity to do something new, it’s very rewarding.” “

The average salary for an electric worker in Australia is around $60,000.
“If you’re an apprentice, you have a really low salary.
You’re not really earning any money,” Mr C. says.
Mr C, who has been an electric for nearly 30 years, says he feels “a little bit of pride” that he got his first job in the business.
“They’re very proud of me.
“In the end, it really is about being a good person, and being a very dedicated person.” “
Mr C says his father had an electric when he was young and that he has a lot in common with him. “

“He would always tell me, ‘I’m an electric, I’m an apprentice’.” The documentary, titled Electricians: The Most Personal and Coronavirus-Resilient, was released in Australia on Tuesday (local time) and will be broadcast across the country.
The film focuses on the people who are trained to operate equipment at home.
“These are the people that really do the work, the people you work with at home, you work alongside,” Mr J says.
In addition to Mr Johnson and Mr Cs family, Mr C also has two young children who are now working as electricians.
The documentary also explores the “hidden world” of electricians, including what it is like to work alongside the likes of Peter, who is now a GP.
